YouTube to Delete all Medical Information That Contradicts WHO
YouTube has sparked a big debate after its announcement to curb all medical information content on the platform that contradicts the guidelines and information provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The video streaming platform wrote on its feed, “Starting today and ramping up in the coming weeks, we will begin removing content that promotes cancer treatments proven to be harmful or ineffective, or content that discourages viewers from seeking professional medical treatment. These policies will apply to specific health conditions, treatments, and substances where content contradicts local health authorities or WHO.”
Their message further continued, “We may also make exceptions for personal testimonies or content that discusses the results of a specific medical study.” Before Elon Musk’s takeover, Twitter (now X) was under fire by the United States authorities for deleting medical information passed on by certified doctors and professors that were often contrary to that of WHO’s guidelines and claims during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, YouTube will likely stick to its commitment and start implementing this decision on a wider scale in the coming days.
