World Cup 2023: Maxwell Shatters all Records as the Aussies beat Afghans
Yesterday’s World Cup 2023 match between Australia and Afghanistan witnessed a Glen Maxwell special unlike any other, as the Afghans looked determined to make it to the semi-finals. Afghanistan elected to bat first at the favourable batting pitch of Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. They put up an impressive effort against the Aussie bowlers as Ibrahim Zadran led the charge and scored a remarkable 129. He was supported well by Rahmat Shah and middle-order batsmen, including captain Hashmatullah Shahidi, Azmatullah Omerzai and eventually by Rashid Khan, as they ended on a respectable score of 291.
In the second innings, the Afghan bowlers unleashed a fiery attack on Australian batsmen as none of their top-order batsmen could do well. Naveen Ul Haq and Rashid Khan ran through their batting line-up, and it looked like the Aussies would suffer a humiliating loss in World Cup 2023 by Afghanistan, which was considered as a minnow. Being 97-7, it appeared all over before Glen Maxwell took charge.
He went ballistic against Afghanistan bowlers and began smashing them all over the ground even as skipper Pat Cummins played a slow innings to keep his wicket protected and protect the tailenders. Soon after Maxwell crossed his century, he began suffering immense pain in his leg and could barely stand up. Regardless, he fought through the pain and continued his onslaught. In the end, he scored his historic maiden double-century and got Australia across the finish line. Australia have now officially qualified for the semi-finals of World Cup 2023.
