With Apple you’ll even have to pay for using the AI feature
Apple is reportedly gearing up to introduce a paid tier for its AI suite, Apple Intelligence, unveiled alongside iOS 18, iPad OS 18, and macOS Sequoia
While the AI features will initially remain accessible during the beta phase this fall for compatible devices such as the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and newer models, as well as Macs and iPads with Apple’s M-series chips, this may not last forever. According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple plans to create two tiers for Apple Intelligence: a free version with limited features and a premium Apple Intelligence+ subscription offering full AI capabilities. This shift aligns with Apple’s strategy to boost service revenue amid slowing device upgrade cycles.
By introducing Apple Intelligence+ as a subscription service, Apple aims to counter declining hardware sales with increased service revenue. Additionally, Apple plans to take a cut from subscriptions made through AI partners integrated into its devices, similar to its current App Store model (excluding the EU). This move highlights Apple’s focus on diversifying its income streams and leveraging AI advancements. However, it also means consumers might face additional subscription costs, adding to the growing number of monthly service fees.
