Winter Parliament Session to Begin on December 4
The dates of the Winter Parliament Session have been officially announced – it will commence on December 4 and will continue till December 22, a day after the vote counting of the current state elections that are taking place in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Mizoram, and Chhattisgarh. A number of key issues are expected to be discussed in this session, which will make a strong impact on the country. One of the key bills that the Centre plans to introduce is Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, which will replace the colonial-era Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The various aspects of this bill’s implementation will be discussed during this Winter Parliament Session, as it is aimed at restructuring the old IPC system that was designed in the colonial era and continues to date. Another major bill that the Centre will look to pass is the appointment of the Chief Election Commission Officer and the other Election Commission Officers. While this bill was already introduced in the Monsoon Session, it was not undertaken after some election commission officers expressed their concerns to the government. The government is thus looking to get it approved in the upcoming Winter Parliament Session after revisiting the earlier draft.
