WHO Chief Tedros: Prepare for a deadlier pandemic
The Covid situation around the world appears to be stabilizing, but WHO Chief Tedros believes that global health is far from being out of danger. In his recent statements at the World Health Assembly, he mentioned that there are chances that we might face a ‘deadlier pandemic.’ “The end of Covid-19 as a global health emergency is not the end of Covid-19 as a global health threat. The threat of another variant emerging that causes new surges of diseases and death remains, and the threat of another pathogen emerging with even deadlier potential remains,” he said.
He also added that global healthcare must be prepared whenever humanity faces the next pandemic. The WHO Chief Tedros is currently pushing for Sustainable Development Goals that are to be met by the year 2030. These goals include at least one billion more people in the world having universal healthcare, a billion more should be better protected fom health emergencies, and a billion more would have improved health and well-being.
