Vladimir Putin Lauds PM Modi’s ‘Make in India’ Initiative
Russian President Vladimir Putin is facing a major political crisis amidst Russia’s ongoing conflict with Ukraine and the recent attempted military coup by the Wagner group in Moscow. This conflict has also created a huge economic impact on the country, as several Western brands have effectively shut down their operations in Russia. In the midst of this crisis, Putin has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ initiative and called for a similar economic model in Russia as well to reduce dependency on Western nations for goods and services, as per Russia Today.
“Our friends in India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a great friend of Russia, a few years ago presented a concept ‘Make in India, and it had a very visible effect on the Indian economy,” said Vladimir Putin. He emphasised how important it is for Russia not to be dependent on other countries for weapons, technology, goods and services in light of the sanctions they continue to face due to this conflict. Quite recently, PM Modi announced the transfer of fighter jet engine technology from the US to India, which will empower the Indian defence sector to produce its own line of advanced aircrafts.
