Uttarakhand Tunnel Rescue Operation on the Verge of a Breakthrough

All eyes are fixed on the Uttarakhand tunnel rescue operation, which has been in process for over two weeks. A total of 41 workers were trapped in the construction of the Silkyara tunnel, and massive efforts have been made since then to rescue them out of the rubble. The state’s Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has been routinely monitoring the situation and has even briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the ongoing developments. He also recently posted a message on social media promising that the workers would soon be saved.

The strategy of the Uttarakhand tunnel rescue operation is to push the steel pipe through the rubble and rescue the trapped workers using ropes in a sleeping position. The rescue teams have been conducting practice drills even as the drilling continues to reach the workers. On the other hand, basic necessities have been supplied for the workers, who have been through a long wait to come outside the tunnel. Ambulances have been readied right outside the mouth of the steep pipe to treat any urgent medical emergencies right away. Further details on the operation are now awaited.
