TikTok Bans Osama Bin Laden Propaganda After Backlash

The videos supporting Osama Bin Laden propaganda received mass viewership on TikTok after certain social media influencers started spreading the slain Al-Queda chief’s message in his ‘Letter to America’. While these videos got ample viewership on TikTok, the platform was heavily criticised in the United States for allowing such content to go viral. TikTok has consequently decided to ban all Osama Bin Laden propaganda content on its platform, as well as any related search results, with a brief message showcasing its stance against terrorism.

“Content promoting this letter clearly violates our rules on supporting any form of terrorism. We are proactively and aggressively removing this content and investigating how it got onto our platform,” TikTok said in their statement. However, US lawmakers have begun calling for a complete ban on TikTok across the country for their brief inaction on the Osama Bin Laden propaganda while also criticising the content creators for suggesting that Bin Laden’s 9/11 attacks that claimed thousands of lives was America’s fault.
