T20 World Cup 2024: India vs South Africa Final – A chance to prove Consistency
The T20 World Cup 2024 final in Barbados is set to feature two teams with an all-win record: India and South Africa
Both teams, often tagged as “chokers,” aim to shed this label in their quest for the trophy. Social media has been abuzz with comments highlighting the matchup as one between “generational chokers” and the “chokers of the decade.” South Africa’s last major international win dates back to the 1998 Champions Trophy. In contrast, India last tasted ICC victory in the 2013 Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni. Since then, India has consistently reached semi-finals and finals but has failed to clinch the title. India’s journey to the final started in New York, where they defeated Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA on challenging pitches. Adapting to Caribbean conditions, they included spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who played a crucial role in their victories over Afghanistan,
Bangladesh, Australia, and England. Captain Rohit Sharma noted the team’s ability to adapt as key to their success. However, Virat Kohli’s lack of form remains a concern. South Africa, led by Aiden Markram, demonstrated consistency by beating Sri Lanka, the Netherlands, Bangladesh, and Nepal in the group stage. They continued their winning streak against the USA, England, and the West Indies in the Super Eights, and Afghanistan in the semi-final. Despite some close encounters, especially against Nepal, South Africa managed to prevail. India’s recent ICC campaign saw them falter in the final of the 50-over World Cup last year against Australia. South Africa also lost to Australia in the semi-final. Rohit Sharma remains hopeful about India’s chances, emphasizing the team’s good form and readiness to perform in the final. Both teams now stand on the cusp of ending their respective droughts and shedding the “chokers” tag once and for all.
