Sunrisers Hyderabad defeat KKR with the season’s highest total yet on the back of Harry Brook’s 100
Last night’s match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders was poised to be a high-octane entertainer as they clashed in one of the biggest grounds in India – Eden Gardens. Sunrisers batted first and took off to a flying start as Brook led the charge by smashing the bowlers in the powerplay over. His partners Aggarwala and Tripathi were dismissed very early, but skipper Aiden Markram put up a long partnership with Brook, who kept hitting boundaries all over the park. While Markram was caught on 50 off 26, Brook continued his onslaught with Abhishek Sharma, who also hit a handy 32 runs in just 17 balls. Harry Brook remained not out at 100 off just 55 balls, with 12 fours and 3 sixes to his name.
Chasing a massive 229, KKR’s top order fell under pressure as no one except N Jagadeesan fared well, having scored a decent 36 runs. Despite the quick fall of wickets, captain Nitish Rana and the in-form Rinku SIngh stood tough against SRH bowlers. While Singh hit 58 runs with 4 fours and 4 sixes, Nitish Rana smashed 5 fours and 6 sixes. Their praiseworthy effort helped Kolkata reach the 200-run mark, but they fell short by 23 runs as SRH clinched a comfortable victory. Expectedly, Harry Brook was given ‘Player of the Match’ award for his splendid century.
The next match will be played between Royal Challengers Banglore and Delhi Capitals, followed by Punjab Kings vs. Lucknow Super Giants.
