State Elections 2023: BJP Sweeps Raj., MP, Chhattisgarh; Rises in Telangana

The State Elections 2023 have brought commendable results for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the key northern states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, as the party has recorded an unprecedented sweep in all three states. The long-time serving CM of Madhya Pradesh, CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has retained BJP’s influence in the state as the party won a huge majority of 163 seats out of the total 230 seats, whereas Congress was reduced to just 66 seats. Chouhan will likely continue serving as the state CM.

However, BJP’s biggest gains in State Elections 2023 come in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, the two states that were both ruled by the Congress. With only 101 seats needed to form the government in Rajasthan, the BJP won a stellar 115 seats out of the total 199 seats. Having recorded a big win in the state, the BJP is yet to announce who will take over as the new CM. But perhaps their most unexpected win in State Elections 2023 came in Chhattisgarh, where no exit polls predicted they would do well. Not only did they come out on top, but the BJP also ended up winning a convincing majority of 54 out of the total 90 seats in the state.

Despite their debacle, the Congress got a silver lining in Telangana by recording a clear majority of 64 seats out of the total 119, thereby toppling KCR’s BRS government in the state. But the BJP made strong gains in Telangana as well. Their seat count jumped from only 1 in the last election to 8 in the current one. Standing by their Hindutva ideology, the BJP has replaced Assaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM in the third position in Telangana today. The Mizoram election results will be announced later today.

With their extensive campaigning having paid off, BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, celebrated their success in State Elections 2023 at BJP’s headquarters in New Delhi in the presence of HM Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and BJP chief JP Nadda. PM Modi also thanked the citizens for putting their faith in the BJP and promised to continue working for the welfare of the people.

The State Elections 2023 have thus set the tone for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections by further solidifying PM Modi and BJP’s position in the coming year.
