Singapore Lays Down Plan to Tackle Climate Change Health Risks
Singapore is among the most developed nations of the world, with state-of-the-art technology and advanced infrastructure. Its citizens enjoy an above-par healthcare system that supports patients with all kinds of health problems, but the evolving health risks due to climate change have posed a major challenge to their public health along with the rest of the world. However, in light of this rising threat, Singapore has devised a plan to shield its residents from the health problems that are likely to be caused by rising temperatures.
As per this plan, there will be three layers of health advisories – low, moderate and high, that will be sent to the citizens. These advisories will be determined on the basis of air temperature, humidity, wind speed and solar radiation. To monitor and catch the change in these natural phenomena, Singapore has also installed a total of nine weather panels across the country which will monitor the changing temperatures and alert the authorities immediately. While this is being considered as an effective plan, densely populated countries like India, which have a much large land mass, will have to revise such a strategy accordingly for their own purposes, as the lack of infrastructure makes it extremely unfeasible to adopt these measures.
