Shubhman Gill to get Banned for Protesting Against Umpiring?

Shubhman Gill was fined 115% of their match fees in the recent WTC Final between India and Australia at The Oval. While all the Indian players were fined 100% of their fees due to the slow-over rate, Gill was fined an additional 15% for criticising the umpiring on social media. However, it appears that his punishment may extend even further, as ICC will impose a proper punishment as per Article 2.7 of ICC’s Code of Conduct. This means that the batsmen may be banned from the upcoming series between India and West Indies.

This controversy began after Shubhman Gill edged Scott Boland’s delivery and was nearly caught by Cameron Green. However, the big screen clearly showed that the ball was touching the ground and that it was not a clean catch from Green. But Gill was still given out, which drove him to express his dismay towards this decision on social media. Despite this questionable call, Australia convincingly managed to beat India in this match, which sparked huge criticism from fans. There is no news yet on what form of punishment Shubhman Gill will receive on this matter.
