Shashi Tharoor points out that China and Pakistan may benefit from the Bangladeshi Plight!
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has expressed concern over the Bangladesh crisis, stating that the “big concern” for India is whether Pakistan and China will take advantage of the situation
However, he believes that the Muhammad Yunus-led government in Bangladesh is “no cause for anxiety” for New Delhi. Tharoor noted that there might be a possibility of Pakistan or China’s involvement in the crisis but emphasized that the composition of the interim government and Yunus’ initial statements do not give India any reason to worry. Tharoor praised the central government for giving refuge to ousted Bangladesh leader Sheikh Hasina, saying it was right. He also commended Yunus for visiting the Dhakeshwari temple to allay Hindus’ fears, stating that it was essential to restore law and order in the interests of all Bangladeshis. Meanwhile, Yunus has urged the people to “exercise patience” before judging his government’s role in addressing the attacks on minority Hindus.
Yunus emphasized that each person’s rights should be ensured and blamed “institutional decay” for the country’s predicament. The Bangladesh crisis deepened after Hasina resigned and fled to India following nationwide protests against her government. The interim government has stated that it is addressing the violence directed at Hindus and other religious minorities and will sit with representative bodies to find ways to resolve the attacks. The cabinet also welcomed the resignation of the previous chief justice, Obaidul Hassan, who faced criticism for allegedly subordinating the Supreme Court to the previous government’s interests.
