Sunrisers Hyderabad defeat Punjab Kings by 8 wickets
IPL is rapidly approaching the key phase of their group stage matches, which will ultimately decide which teams will qualify for the playoffs. The previous match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings was packed with many exciting highlights, despite being an average-scoring match. Punjab Kings batted in the first innings where Shikhar Dhawan continued his mighty form and scored a terrific 99 not-out off 66 balls, a feat comprising of 12 fours and 5 sixes. But his efforts went futile as none of his batting partners managed to put a major score on the board, as they ended up at 143 for 9 wickets in 20 overs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad made a shaky start in the second innings as both the openers got dismissed early on. However, their number 3 batsman Rahul Tripathi stood tall by scoring a strong 74 runs in 48 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes. Captain Aiden Markram also supported him well at the other end by scoring 37 runs, and their partnership comfortably brought them to their targets with 8 wickets and nearly 3 overs to spare. Despite being on the losing side, Shikhar Dhawan was rewarded as player of the match thanks to his performance, and remains one of the leading contenders for the Orange Cap. The next match will be played between Royal Challengers Banglore and Lucknow Supergiants.
