Second Batch of Sig Sauer Rifle Approved for Bharatiya Infantry

The Sig Sauer rifle appears to have become the new preferred option of our armed forces as Bharat’s Defence Ministry has approved the order for its second batch. In this deal, which is worth Rs. 800 crores, a total of 70,000 of these rifles will be provided to the armed forces, with the lion’s share going to the Indian Army. As per Republic, the deployment of these rifles will be largely along the Line of Control and Line of Actual Control in order to counter Pakistan and China, respectively.

The Sig Sauer rifle is known to have superior accuracy and lethality compared to the standard INSAS rifle that is used by the infantry. INSAS is stated to be an obsolete weapon that has been in use for well over two decades and is, hence, being replaced at a rapid pace. The first order of the Sig Sauer rifle was placed by Bharat in 2019, which was a bigger deal in comparison, consisting of 70,400 rifles. Out of these 70,400 American rifles, 66,400 will be allocated to the Army, 4000 to the Air Force, and 2000 to the Navy.
