Samsung’s Upcoming XR Devices Could Redefine Galaxy Ecosystem in 2025

Samsung is preparing to re-enter the extended reality (XR) market with a new lineup of XR devices planned for release in early 2025. It comes nearly a decade after Samsung’s initial foray into virtual reality with its Gear VR headset. This product saw massive success back in 2016. Since then, Samsung has largely exited the VR space, but signs suggest a cautious return. During MWC 2022, CEO Han Jong-hee hinted at a new XR device in development. Samsung briefly mentioned the product again at its Galaxy Unpacked event in July 2024, suggesting an imminent release. Recent investor presentations have now confirmed that Samsung’s XR devices are expected to launch in 2025, likely alongside the Galaxy S25 series. The company is not working on this project alone; Samsung has partnered with Google, which will provide the base software, and Qualcomm, which will supply the chipset.
The same was carried with the intent of creating a collaborative approach similar to Meta’s Quest 3 that runs Android on a Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset. Samsung’s upcoming XR headsets are rumored to feature high-resolution micro-OLED displays with increased brightness compared to the LCD screens commonly used in current headsets. Additionally, Samsung might integrate its ISOCELL depth-sensing sensors for improved tracking capabilities. This lineup aims to enhance the Galaxy ecosystem by offering better connectivity across Samsung devices, giving users a richer, more seamless experience. While the exact launch date is not yet confirmed, expectations are high for an announcement during the early 2025 Galaxy Unpacked event, marking Samsung’s return to the immersive technology market.
