Reports say that GenZs get pretty stressed and anxious after using Social Media!
A recent study by Talker Research, commissioned by LG Electronics, has found that 49% of Gen Z social media users feel stressed and anxious after using social media
A recent study by Talker Research, commissioned by LG Electronics, has found that 49% of Gen Z social media users feel stressed and anxious after using social media. The survey, conducted among 2,000 Gen Z Americans, revealed that Instagram and TikTok were the platforms most associated with negative emotions, followed by Facebook. Despite these concerns, many Gen Z users found it challenging to disengage from social media, citing boredom as the primary reason. The study highlighted that social media use can have a detrimental effect on mental health, with three out of four respondents attributing negative impacts to these platforms. Participants reported feeling frustrated with the content on their feeds, stating that it did not align with their interests or preferences. Furthermore, 54% thought they had limited or no control over the content on their feeds.
The study also revealed that it takes only 38 minutes of social media usage for those who experience negative emotions to start feeling bad. Content featuring physical violence, politics, and sexually explicit material was identified as significant contributors to these negative feelings. However, there was a sense of optimism among Gen Z regarding the future of social media, with 38% believing that social media platforms could improve their impact on mental health over the next five years. To mitigate the adverse effects of social media, Louis Giagrande, Head of US Marketing at LG Electronics, urged users to be more conscious of the content they engage with and to foster balance, inspiration, and happiness in their online interactions. He suggested that users take proactive steps to “reset” their feeds by engaging more with positive content.
