Prominent Malayalam film editor Nishadh Yusuf was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his apartment in Panampilly Nagar, Kochi, in the early hours of October 30. The 43-year-old editor’s body was discovered around 2 a.m., prompting police to begin an investigation into the cause of death, which remains unclear. Originally from Harippad, Yusuf was a celebrated figure in the Malayalam and Tamil film industries. His sudden passing has left colleagues and fans shocked. The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) Directors’ Union acknowledged the loss with a tribute on Facebook, recognizing Yusuf’s influential role in shaping modern Malayalam cinema. They wrote, “The unexpected demise of Nishadh Yusuf… is not something the film world will be able to quickly accept.”
Yusuf’s work included critically acclaimed films like Thallumaala, Unda, One, Saudi Vellakka, and Adios Amigos, with his editing style known for its versatility and creative flair. His achievements included a Kerala State Award for Best Editor in 2022 for Thallumaala, a film celebrated for its dynamic editing. Yusuf’s current projects included Kanguva, starring Suriya and Bobby Deol, slated for release on November 14. Just two days before his passing, he posted a photo with the film’s stars, reflecting his enthusiasm for the project. Other upcoming films he was working on included Mammootty’s Bazooka and another Suriya project with RJ Balaji. Survived by his wife, son, and daughter, Nishadh Yusuf’s tragic death has left a void in the film industry. Prayers and condolences are extended to his family in this time of sorrow.
