Ravichandran Ashwin Sets a Unique Record Against Windies
Ravichandran Ashwin is among the most versatile spinners in Indian cricket, especially in the test format. Among the many illustrious records that he holds to his name, the bowler’s new record against West Indies is highly unique. In the ongoing test match against West Indies, Ashwin became the first bowler in the history of cricket to take a wicket of a father and his son. He achieved this feat after knocking over Tagenarine Chanderpaul, who is the son of retired Windies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
Ravichandran Ashwin had taken the wicket of Tagenarine’s father, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, during the second innings of his debut test by trapping Chanderpaul lbw when he was on 47. In ongoing India vs West Indies test match, Indian bowlers did well by dismissing their rivals for just 150 runs in the first innings. India’s batters have since dominated the game as skipper Rohit Sharma and debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal have together put 80 runs on the board already and will continue to bat on Day 2. Along with Jaiswal, this match is also a test debut for Ishan Kishan, who is taken over as India’s wicket-keeper. After a disappointing loss at the World Test Championship final against Australia, Rohit Sharma-led Team India will be eager to get their mojo back ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup, followed by World Cup hosted by India later this year.
