Ram Mandir Karsevak Remains Arrested in Karnataka, Family Seeks Justice

The arrest of Ram Mandir Karsevak Srikanth Poojari weeks ahead of the grand opening of the holy temple in Ayodhya has sparked a major political controversy even as his family attempts to free him from judicial custody. Karnataka police recently arrested Poojari on various criminal charges, which has sparked outrage. In a conversation with Republic, Poojari’s father said, “The police did not send any summons; they took him directly. This is politically motivated. Ram sevaks are being taken away before Ram Mandir’s inauguration. We request the government with folded hands to release him.”

His family also expressed their dismay over Poojari’s manhandling by the police, citing his pre-existing medical issues. His son revealed that even though both of Poojari’s hands had been previously operated on, the police conducted his arrest in an unruly manner. However, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah defended the arrest, accusing Srikanth Poojari of selling marijuana, theft, extortion, and gambling, and that he only poses as a Ram Mandir Karsevak. The matter continues to escalate as Poojari’s family approaches the judiciary to challenge his arrest.
