Rahul Dravid Reveals the ‘Hardest’ Part of Being a Coach
In his nearly two-year tenure as the Team India coach, Rahul Dravid has faced in own share of success and failure. Prior to this, he also briefly served as India’s Under-19 team coach and mentored the country’s budding talent. In a recent press conference, the cricketer-turned-coach talked about the one aspect of this job that he finds the hardest, which is team selection. He talked about picking any player in the team will result in disappointment for other players and can greatly impact their morale.
Expressing his empathy for players who don’t get qualified, Rahul Dravid said, “Every time we pick a Playing XI, we disappoint people; there are others who are not playing. Every time we pick a 15 for a tournament, there are a lot of guys who feel they should be there. And you feel bad for them on an emotional level. But at least we all try. I don’t say I am perfect at it. I’m not saying that I get it right all the time because it does affect you. That’s the hardest part of coaching or leading teams—having to make those tough decisions about people you truly want to succeed and do well. But you can only pick so many players, forced by the rule,” as per Republic.
Rahul Dravid is currently preparing Team India for the upcoming Asia Cup, which will be soon followed by ODI World Cup, which will be played in India later this year.
