Punjab police arrests Amritpal Singh’s aide Papalpreet in Amritsar hands him to Assam jail
Pro-Khalistan Amritpal Singh has been on the run ever since orders were issued to arrests him for stoking pro-separatist Khalistani propaganda in the state of Punjab. While he still remains at large, his close aide Papalpreet has been detained in Amritsar and booked under National Security Act. As per Indian Express, he was hiding in the Kathunangal area before being nabbed by the police. Inspector General Sukhchain Singh Gill has revealed that Papalpreet was Amritpal’s leading associate and has been arrested under six different cases other than the NSA Act.
Papalpreet was previously a pro-Khalistani journalist and writer before eventually becoming Amritpal’s media advisor. He was arrested back in 2015 as well under sedition charges for his alleged links with Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI in the Sarbat Khalsa case. He was once again arrested in 2016 for organising another Sarbat Khalsa event in Bathinda. Gill has further revealed that Papalpreet was arrested after police carried out a particular search operation with close assistance from intelligence agencies. He was recently spotted on a CCTV camera at a Tenauli dera before his eventual arrest in Kathunangal. He is currently being interrogated by the police at Assam’s Dibrugarh jail. Punjab’s Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, has stated that Pakistan is making attempts to disrupt peace in the state, but the police will do everything in its power to prevent the situation from escalating.
