Protectors turn violators of the law! A CISF constable slapped Kangana Ranaut over remarks on farmer

Kulwinder Kaur, a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable, was suspended after allegedly slapping newly elected BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut at the Chandigarh airport.

The incident, which occurred on Thursday, was reportedly a reaction to remarks made by Ranaut during the farmers’ protests in 2020. Kaur, who comes from a family of farmers, was provoked by Ranaut’s earlier comments suggesting that women at the farmers’ protests were paid ₹100 each to participate. In a viral video, Kaur expressed her frustration, stating, “My mother was there,” referring to her mother’s involvement in the protests. She reiterated Ranaut’s controversial statement, highlighting the personal offense taken due to her family’s connection to the protests. Kaur’s reaction has led to her suspension and the initiation of a police case against her, as well as a court of inquiry by the CISF, which provides security at airports.

Kulwinder Kaur joined the CISF in 2009 and has been with the aviation security group at Chandigarh Airport since 2021. She has had a clean service record with no prior vigilance inquiries or punishments. The incident sparked political and public reactions. Kangana Ranaut shared her concern about “terrorism and extremism” in Punjab following the altercation. She confirmed the incident occurred during a security check and accused Kaur of hitting her due to her support for the farmers’ protest. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has called for strict action against Kaur. NCW chief Rekha Sharma emphasized the seriousness of the breach of security by the CISF personnel and stated that the commission has taken up the matter with CISF headquarters. Ranaut’s controversial comments during the 2020 farmers’ protests, particularly about an elderly woman protester, had previously led to public outrage and forced her to delete the tweet. The recent incident at Chandigarh airport has reignited discussions about the sensitivity and impact of such remarks on the affected communities.
