Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend G7 Summit, hosted by Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni, is being held in Apulia, southern Italy, at the luxury resort of Borgo Egnazia. During his day-long visit, Modi is scheduled to participate in a summit session titled “Artificial Intelligence, Energy, Africa-Mediterranean,” hosted by Prime Minister Georgia Meloni and featuring Pope Francis. Modi is expected to hold bilateral talks with Pope Francis and other world leaders on the summit’s sidelines. In a departure statement, Modi expressed his anticipation for discussions to address global issues and improve people’s lives. He noted the significance of his first foreign visit during his third consecutive term as Prime Minister, which wasaly for the G7 Summit. The Outreach Session of the G7 Summit will focus on crucial issues such as artificial intelligence, energy, Africa, and the Mediterranean.
Modi also recalled the momentum brought to bilateral relations with Italy by Prime Minister Meloni’s visits to India last year. This session is viewed as an opportunity to align the outcomes of the G20 Summit held under India’s Presidency last year with the forthcoming G7 Summit and to deliberate on matters necessary for the Global South. Italy, under the presidency of Prime Minister Georgia Meloni, has chosen southern Italy as the venue to send a strong message to the Global South. The summit is expected to address the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy already in attendance. Apart from India, Italy has also invited leaders from 11 developing countries across Africa, South America, and the Indo-Pacific region to participate in the G7 Summit, emphasizing a broad global outreach.
