PM Narendra Modi inaugurates Multiple Projects in West Bengal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to unveil a slew of development projects worth a staggering ₹15,000 crore during his visit to West Bengal. Arriving in the state on Friday for a two-day visit, PM Modi’s agenda includes the dedication of four rail projects valued at over ₹940 crore.

The Prime Minister’s first stop on Saturday will be Krishnanagar in Nadia district, where he will inaugurate the projects amid tight security arrangements. Among the key highlights is the foundation stone laying ceremony for Damodar Valley Corporation’s Raghunathpur Thermal Power Station Phase II, with a capacity of 2×660 MW, situated in Purulia district.

Furthermore, PM Modi will inaugurate the flue gas desulfurisation (FGD) system at Mejia Thermal Power Station, constructed at a cost of ₹650 crore. Additionally, he will inaugurate the four-laning of the 100-km-long Farakka-Raiganj section of NH-12, a project executed at a budget of ₹1,986 crore.

In the realm of railway infrastructure, the Prime Minister will dedicate four significant projects valued at over ₹940 crore. These include the doubling of the Damodar-Mohishila line, the establishment of a third line between Rampurhat and Murarai, the doubling of the Bazarsau-Azimganj rail line, and the inauguration of a new line connecting Azimganj and Murshidabad.

This visit follows PM Modi’s unveiling of development initiatives worth more than ₹7,200 crore in Arambagh, Hooghly district, on Friday. Notably, Krishnanagar Lok Sabha seat, one of the areas on the Prime Minister’s itinerary, was won by TMC’s Mohua Moitra in the 2019 elections. Moitra, known for her outspoken criticism of the BJP-led government, was expelled from the Lok Sabha in December for unethical conduct.

Nadia district, where Krishnanagar is located, holds significance due to its substantial Matua population. After his engagements in West Bengal, PM Modi is scheduled to travel to Bihar in the afternoon, marking the conclusion of his visit to the eastern state.
