PM Narendra Modi calls for ‘Democratisation of Technology’
PM Narendra Modi and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are proactively setting the tone for G20 Summit later this year, where world leaders will be arriving in India. As the host of this summit, there are many important international issues that India will give emphasis to, and among them will be India’s contribution towards the global digital revolution. He recently addressed the G20 developmental ministers via video message, where he highlighted the need to ‘democratise technology’ by countering the growing data disparity in the world.
He highlighted India’s leap towards a digital economy and credited its high-quality and affordable data for this revolution. “In India, digitalisation has brought about a revolutionary change. Technology is being used as a tool to empower people,” PM Narendra Modi said in his address. He also called for reforms in global financial institutions in terms of increasing their eligibility criteria and providing financial assistance for those countries that need it the most. Parallelly, India has also been lobbying for reforms in the United Nations, stating that the institution has not upheld the interests of the global south and that they have left out the world’s largest democracy out of its security council.
