PM Modi wishes Dr. Manmohan Singh on his 92nd Birthday
On the occasion of Dr. Manmohan Singh’s 92nd birthday, leaders from across the political spectrum, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended wishes
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi, extended their heartfelt wishes to the former Prime Minister. Singh, a distinguished economist and India’s first Sikh Prime Minister, held office from 2004 to 2014. His tenure is celebrated for significant economic reforms that reshaped India’s financial landscape. Prime Minister Modi took to social media, expressing his wish for Dr. Singh to have a long and healthy life. Similarly, Kharge praised Singh for his simplicity and lifelong dedication to public service, particularly his economic reforms, while Rahul Gandhi highlighted Singh’s humility and wisdom, noting his lasting influence on India’s future. Singh’s work as the Union Finance Minister in the early 1990s is particularly renowned, with his transformative economic policies under Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao being pivotal in liberalizing India’s economy and integrating it with global markets.
Prior to becoming Prime Minister, Singh held key positions, including Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, Chief Economic Advisor, and Chairman of the University Grants Commission. Born in Gah, Punjab (now in Pakistan) in 1932, Singh had a humble beginning. His academic achievements were remarkable, having earned degrees from Panjab University, Cambridge, and a DPhil from Oxford. He transitioned from academia to public service, beginning as an Economic Advisor in the Commerce Ministry and later playing a pivotal role in India’s economic reforms. Singh’s leadership as Prime Minister marked an era of sustained growth, and his contributions continue to be recognized globally as a defining moment in India’s economic and political history.
