PM Modi strategized placements in a certain way to address Community-driven issues

Modi’s cabinet 3.0 strategically aims to appeal to a broad spectrum of castes and regions in UP, addressing changing electoral dynamics and reinforcing the BJP’s position for future elections.

PM Modi strategically placed ministers in Uttar Pradesh to address community-driven issues. The distribution includes four ministers from West UP, three ministers from Purvanchal, and two ministers from Awadh (Central UP). Key appointments aim to maintain political balance and address ongoing challenges in Central UP and Bundelkhand. In 2014, the BJP and its allies won 73 seats in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and included 18 ministers in the cabinet, constituting 24.5% of the cabinet. In 2019, they secured 64 seats, with 13 ministers representing 20% of the cabinet. Despite a further drop to 36 seats in 2024, UP’s ministerial representation rose to 10, making up 28% of the cabinet. This strategic adjustment aims to balance regional and caste dynamics in UP. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s new cabinet focuses on a mix of communities to reflect UP’s diverse socio-political landscape.

The cabinet includes four ministers from the Other Backward Class (OBC), two from the Dalit community, and three from upper castes. Notably, there are no ministers from the Jatav and Harijan communities, indicating a shift in support away from the BJP. Two ministers from the Kurmi Community and backward classes have been included to address the issue above. The regional distribution includes four ministers from West UP, three from Purvanchal, and two from Awadh (Central UP). This effort aims to maintain political equilibrium across UP. Key appointments include Rajnath Singh, a senior BJP leader from Central UP, Kamlesh Paswan, a Dalit leader from Purvanchal, and Pankaj Chaudhary, an OBC leader from Eastern UP. In Purvanchal, where the BJP won 10 out of 27 seats, three ministers have been appointed to rebuild support. In West UP, where the BJP secured 14 out of 29 seats, four ministers have been appointed to strengthen the party’s presence. In Central UP and Bundelkhand, where the BJP won 9 out of 24 seats, only one minister has been appointed, reflecting ongoing challenges in this region.
