PM Modi sets the agenda for his upcoming state visit to US
The stage has been set for PM Modi as he prepares to fly to Washington D.C., where he will be received by President Joe Biden. This state visit has several underlying agendas aimed at deepening India-USA ties on diplomatic, economic and military fronts. The United States is keen to reduce India’s military dependency on Russia, which is currently engaged in Ukraine. While India has no intentions of distancing itself from Russia, PM, Modi has firmly expressed the need to make India ‘Atma-Nirbhar’ or self-reliant in every aspect, including building and manufacturing its own weapon systems to reduce its arms imports.
On the other hand, India is also firmly rallying for technology transfer to make sure that India can do its own research and development on this tech after having bought it from the country. PM Modi will also address U.S. Congress during this visit, which will make him the first Indian Prime Minister to have done that twice. In addition to this, he will have extensive interaction with the Indian diaspora, who, in his own words, will play a major role in India’s development. PM Modi will arrive in the U.S. on June 21, where he will be hosted by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden at the White House before he officially begins his tour.
