PM Modi Inaugurated New Nalanda University Campus in Rajgir, Bihar
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new campus of Nalanda University in Rajgir, Bihar, on June 19. This significant event will be graced by the presence of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and ambassadors from 17 nations
Highlighting the international collaboration involved in the university’s revival, involving the participation of PM Modi. Nalanda University, situated near the ancient ruins of its predecessor, was re-established under the University Act, 2010. This initiative stemmed from a decision made during the 2007 East Asia Summit, aiming to revive the illustrious academic tradition, which thrived for 800 years before being destroyed in the 12th century. The modern incarnation of Nalanda University began its educational operations in 2014 with a modest cohort of 14 students. Construction of the new campus commenced in 2017, marking a significant milestone in the university’s development. The university’s revival has garnered participation from 17 countries, reflecting its international outlook and commitment to fostering global educational ties.
Nalanda University offers 137 international scholarships, underscoring its dedication to attracting a diverse student body from across the globe, the same was acknowledged by Modi. The university comprises six schools, including the School of Buddhist Studies and the School of Sustainable Development and Management, which are designed to cater to contemporary academic needs while honoring the historical legacy of Nalanda. The inauguration of the new campus not only marks a new chapter for Nalanda University but also symbolizes India’s commitment to reviving its ancient centers of learning and promoting educational excellence on a global scale, lauded by PM Modi. The presence of international dignitaries at the event highlights the global importance of this initiative and reinforces the university’s role as a beacon of knowledge and cultural exchange.
