PM Modi in France: Key Strategic Highlights of This Trip

French President Emmanuel Macron recently welcomed PM Modi in France with full state honours, as French PM Elisabeth Borne herself received him at the airport. Modi was invited as the ‘Guest of Honour’ by Macron for the Bastille Day celebrations and was bestowed the highest honour for France that grabbed headlines. But this trip was also marked by several important strategic decisions related to trade and defence that makes this tour of PM Modi in France extremely vital for the future of their bilateral relations.

Dassault Aviation, who has already provided 36 Rafale fighter jets to India in the past, confirmed that they had received another order of 26 Rafale jets from India, as per PTI. These jets are the naval version of this fighter aircraft which will be provided to the Indian navy. PM Modi in France also confirmed that India’s United Payments Interface (UPI) has also been officially launched in the country, which will further boost trade between the two nations. During the Bastille Day celebrations, a contingent of the Indian tri-services also took part in the parade, which received praises from PM Modi as he announced the conclusion of this trip.
