Peru Health Minister Resigns Amidst Dengue Crisis

Peru Health Minister Rosa Gutierrez has tendered her resignation from the post as the country slips into a massive health crisis following the rise of dengue cases. A total of 248 people have already succumbed to this disease, and over 1,47,000 people have been infected, according to AFP. President Dina Boluarte has assured that their efforts to fight dengue will be doubled in the coming times, and a better healthcare system will be built. However, this health crisis has already made a huge dent in their infrastructure because of the increased pressure.

The policies of the former Peru Health Minister was questioned in a congressional hearing, which ultimately led to her resignation. Peru holds the second-highest dengue mortality rate in Latin America behind Brazil, according to the Pan-American Health organisation. Dengue is a mosquito-induced virus that has been tormenting Peru for decades now, but none of the governments have been able to wipe out this disease. However, it is also important to note that as per the World Health Organisation, dengue is triggered by the after-effects of climate change.
