Battling Insomnia: Here are 5 ways to deal with this problem

Insomnia and other sleep deprivation-related cases have consistently risen worldwide as people try to keep up with today’s fast-paced life. The high-octane urban lifestyle has made it increasingly difficult to follow a routine that aptly supports their sleep cycle. While medical help can be easily sought to treat such problems, there are basic habits that you can pick up in your daily life that will help you sleep on time. Here are 5 ways to reduce insomnia which can be easily followed daily.

5 ways to reduce insomnia

Practice sleep restriction

Taking afternoon naps is one of the most common reasons people have trouble falling asleep at night (Insomnia). Waking up early in the morning and restricting yourself to dozing off in the afternoon will automatically make your body and mind crave rest, making you prone to falling asleep on time.

Reduce intake of caffeine and alcohol

Consuming caffeine in the form of coffee, energy drinks, and other aerated drinks is a habit usually found in people leading urban lifestyles. Too much caffeine in a day, especially in the second half, will increase hyperactivity in your mind and make it difficult for you to rest. You must drink only 1-2 cups of coffee before 6 pm.

Do not consume food right before sleeping

Contrary to the general belief that eating makes you sleepy, having dinner before bed will prove counterproductive. This is because it is difficult for your body to fall asleep while your stomach is still in the early stages of digestion.  Such an eating pattern may be a secret factor contributing to your insomnia.

Keep away from phones and gadgets post 10 pm

Another common habit among most people, scrolling through your social media feed for hours will keep you mentally engaged and not let you sleep. Although our addiction to phones makes it difficult for us to do that, keeping your phone aside for the day by 10 pm will make a huge difference.

Listen to music

Probably one of the most underrated ways to reduce insomnia, listening to music has a soothing effect on your mind. Anxiety and hypertension are usually the reasons behind insomnia; listening to calm music is a direct cure. Music will help your mind and facial muscles relax, putting you to sleep.
