Operation Jhansi: Here are key details of UP police’s plan of action to counter Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led UP Government has maintained its strict no-tolerance policy towards the mafia since the beginning. Quite recently, their police announced that they had eliminated arrested politician Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad in an encounter, along with the latter’s aide Ghulam Hasan. But this critical operation, which was code-named ‘Jhansi’, took meticulous planning to the last detail to execute it with precision, according to Hindustan Times.
The UP police revealed that it had received intel about Asad and Ghulam’s plan to attack the convoy that would carry Atiq Ahmed to help him escape since he is currently under trial for Umesh Pal murder case. The Special Task Force was ordered to carry out a pre-emptive operation to stop their plan from taking place. UP’s Special Director General Prashant Kumar said that a team of civil police was also deployed with them. Asad was intercepted while he was on a bike with Ghulam on the Kanpur-Jhansi highway.
As per a TOI report, the police created a diversion for them by increasing security at the Jhansi border since April 11, when Atiq Ahmed was being brought to Prayagraj. The STF team was dressed in civilian clothes and thus managed to avoid suspicions from Asad and Ghulam before eventually cornering them. Asad and Ghulam reportedly opened fire at the police around 12:45 pm and were eventually killed around 1 pm. Foreign-made weapons were eventually recovered from them.
