OpenAI has unveiled Canvas , a significant update to the ChatGPT interface aimed at enhancing collaboration for writing and coding projects. Canvas opens in a separate window, enabling users to work alongside ChatGPT to brainstorm, refine ideas, and make revisions. Unlike the current chat-based interface, Canvas offers a more interactive environment where users can highlight specific sections for feedback, making it ideal for tasks that require editing or multiple revisions. Currently in beta for ChatGPT Plus and Team users , Canvas is powered by GPT-4o and can be manually selected via the model picker. It will be available to Enterprise and Edu users next week, and eventually to all free users once out of beta.

Canvas introduces a range of shortcuts that allow users to ask ChatGPT to perform specific tasks, such as adjusting writing length, debugging code, and more. It also offers features like inline suggestions and feedback on text or code. The interface can automatically launch when ChatGPT detects that Canvas could be useful, or users can request it with a prompt. This update aims to provide a more tailored and responsive experience for projects that go beyond simple queries, transforming ChatGPT into a more versatile assistant for creative and technical work.
