Only 20% Addicts Seek Drug Addiction Treatments, Study Finds

Rehabilitation centres present in all corners of the world provide various drug addiction treatments, which is sought by people addicted to all kinds of drugs like cocaine, heroin, fentanyl and so on. However, a new study has found that only one in five people seek drug addiction treatments due to various reasons, according to JAMA Network. Several medications are available in the market today that help patients reduce their substance addictions, but these medications are often highly expensive in nature and cannot be accessed by many.

Another big reason why drug addiction treatments are not sought by many is that doctors remain hesitant to use these medications in their drug addiction treatments. These medications have been approved by America’s FDA as well, but the doctors still do not recommend them to patients who are seeking de-addiction. Nevertheless, these medicines are known to restrict cravings and help in mental therapy for patients. Public embarrassment is another big factor why several drug addicts refuse to even accept their drug problems, let alone seek out help. These factors need to be recognised and studied by healthcare and medical ecosystems around the world before taking tangible actions.
