No-Confidence Motion: Who Holds the Numbers in Lok Sabha?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to address the No-Confidence Motion that has been introduced in the Lok Sabha by MP Tarun Gogoi. Several leaders of the Government and the Opposition are set to speak at Lok Sabha today, including Leader of Opposition Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, former Union Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore, former Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay, TMC MP Mahua Moitra, Congress MP Hibi Eden among others, as per Republic. However, the question still remains on which side will win today’s No-Confidence Motion.

Today’s victory will be determined by whether the BJP-led NDA government still holds the majority in Lok Sabha or not. A party or a coalition needs 272 seats in the Lok Sabha to remain in the government. The NDA government continues to hold a massive majority of 331 seats, out of which 301 seats are of the BJP itself. This No-Confidence Motion is thus unlikely to bear any fruits for the Opposition. Several issues relating to national importance, such as the Manipur situation, are likely to be discussed today in Parliament. PM Modi is expected to address the Lok Sabha at 4 pm today.
