Nitin Gadkari Announces Vehicles Run Purely on Ethanol

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has vocally backed the use of ethanol as an alternative to fuel ever since he took over the ministry in 2014. In a major update, he has now announced that vehicles run purely on ethanol will soon be available in the market, as per PTI. “We are bringing new vehicles that will run entirely on ethanol. Bajaj, TVS, and Hero scooters will run 100 percent on ethanol.” This move can significantly reduce dependency on fuel for road transport in times to come.

Nitin Gadkari further emphasised its importance, saying, “If you compare it with petrol, it will be Rs. 15 per litre of petrol because ethanol’s rate is Rs. 60, while the rate of petrol is Rs. 120 per litre. Plus, it would generate 40% of electricity. The average would be Rs. 15 per litre.” Gadkari also announced that he would be launching Toyota’s new car – Camry, in August. It will be completely run on ethanol and will generate electricity, which will pave the path for other major automobile brands to follow suit and come up with their own advanced versions of an ethanol-run cars.
