NIA Court convicts 5 suspects in PLA – Maoist nexus case
Naxalism has been a major threat to India’s national security and sovereignty for decades. The government and security forces have been wary of the nexus between Maoist Naxals and China’s PLA army to subvert India’s sovereignty and peace in the northeast and tightly monitor activities in that arena. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) court has now convicted five suspects that have been accused in the 2011 PLA – CPI nexus case for threatening India’s security and national interests, as per a Republic report.
Investigations have revealed that the two entities used to work in a liaison office in Kolkata for “waging war against the Union of India”. It also states that the PLA, Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) and CPI (Communist Party of India) (Maoist) also conducted bipartite meetings to provide military training to cadres who would eventually take up arms against India. This news comes just a day after Maoists killed ten policemen and one civilian with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack in the state of Dantewada, Chhattisgarh. The state CM Bhupesh Baghel sent his deepest condolences over their death and criticised the terrorists, saying that the fight against them had reached its “last stage”.
