NIA conducts raids on multiple Jamaat-e-Islami locations in terror funding case
The National Investigative Agency or NIA has raided several locations of Jamaat-e-Islami in Jammu and Kashmir under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). According to Republic, these locations are suspected of sheltering terror funding and key documents have been detained as evidence. A total of nine locations were raided across the districts of Pulwama and Sopian, where they collected this evidence, whereas one person has also been detained from the Raiku district. These raids expectedly hint at connections with Pakistan-based terror groups, which have been recently operating under the off-shoots of names like Jammu and Kashmir Ghaznavi Force (JKGF), People’s Resistance Front (PRF) and Anti-Fascist Front (AFF).
These raids come weeks after the attacks on the Indian Army and Rashtriya Rifles convoy in Poonch and Rajauri, which cost the lives of 10 Indian jawans. The security and intelligence forces have since been heavily cracking down on all terror operations in the state, especially with the G20 Summit due to take place there later this year. NIA has been closely involved in crushing several terror modules in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A in the state, and played a key role in tacking the pro-separatist Hurriyat movement in Kashmir.
