New York Bans TikTok on State-Issued Mobile Phones

There has been a growing concern in the Western world regarding the Chinese-origin TikTok app and the threat it poses to their national security. The state of New York, USA, has taken a significant step towards upholding its security against the app by banning it from phones that have been issued by the state itself, as per the New York Times. They have given all government employees a deadline of 30 days to ban TikTok from their devices in this regard.
TikTok has expectedly challenged this decision on the grounds that it violates America’s First Amendment. However, they have refused to make a public statement on this decision. Several bipartisan representatives of the United States of America have called for a complete ban on the app. But there is no indication yet whether such a decision will be taken by the government. India banned TikTok and over 50 other apps back in 2020 after the Chinese troops clashed with the Indian Army along the LAC border, which prompted the Indian Government to take this step.
