New Parliament Inauguration: RJD, JDU and DMK to skip the opening ceremony
As we close in to the inauguration date of the new Parliament building, multiple political parties continue to voice their protests. Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janta Dal and Nitish Kumar’s Janta Dal United have decided to skip the opening ceremony, and so has the MK Stalin-led DMK, according to Republic. They have joined the list of other parties who have also decided not to mark their presence at this occasion, including Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party, Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress, and CPI (M).
This political clash began after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi protested against Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating the new Parliament building instead of President Droupadi Murmu. Meanwhile, other political leaders continue to argue that there was no reason to construct a new Parliament building in the first place since the old building still remains in working condition. This construction was a part of the Central Vista project that began two years ago.
Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla has confirmed that the opening ceremony of the new Parliament building will be taking place this coming Sunday, May 28.
