Neeraj Chopra Sets His Eyes on a 90m Throw
Neeraj Chopra has become a sports icon for all young athletes to take an example from, having won several prestigious medals for India, including an Olympic Gold. He holds a remarkable personal record of 89.94m that got him the Gold, but he fell just short of the elite 90-metre mark. However, in a recent conversation with Jio Cinema, he expressed his confidence in reaching and crossing the mark somewhere in the future. He said, “Definitely, I’m close. I just need one perfect day with favourable weather conditions, and I am confident I’ll be able to achieve the throw.”
He further continued, “I have somewhat become accustomed to handling pressure. However, when I participate in competitions that occur once every two to four years, there is undoubtedly a sense of responsibility.” Neeraj Chopra further explained that he is not keeping his aim limited to simply achieving a 90-metre throw. “I’m not carrying a specific throwing distance or medal target in my mind, but it’s important that when I compete there – I don’t want to have any fear of injury or anything else on my mind. I want to give it my best, and if that happens, I will come back better than before,” he said. Neeraj Chopra had recently competed in Doha Diamond League.
