Neeraj Chopra glorified despite a step down!
Neeraj Chopra, the silver medalist at the Paris Olympics, is expected to see a significant increase in his endorsement portfolio
Neeraj Chopra, the silver medalist at the Paris Olympics, is expected to see a significant increase in his endorsement portfolio, with an estimated 32-34 brands by the end of the year. This would make him the highest earner outside of cricket, surpassing even top cricketers. His current portfolio includes 24 brands across various categories, with global brands like Under Armour and Omega. JSW Sports, the company managing Chopra’s portfolio, is in talks with six to eight new brands, expecting a 50% growth in his endorsement portfolio this year. His brand value is also expected to increase by 40-50% from $29.6 million last year. His endorsement fee has already seen a 40-50% jump, from Rs 3 crore to Rs 4-4.5 crore per year.
Chopra’s brand mix includes global and luxury brands, with two to three years of long-term deals. His team is selective about the products he endorses, avoiding alcohol, betting, fantasy gaming, and unhealthy foods and drinks. This is reflected in his 24-plus brand roster, which is expected to continue growing. Emerging sports like track and field drive the endorsement market, with star athletes like Chopra and PV Sindhu contributing to the growth. Endorsements in emerging sports stood at Rs 117 crore in 2023, up seven per cent, and are expected to contribute more to the endorsement pie in 2024 and beyond. Chopra’s success is a testament to the growing recognition of Indian athletes in the global sports arena.
