NCP Chief Sharad Pawar Calls Centre ‘Ineffective’ in Manipur

NCP chief Sharad Pawar has lashed out at the Modi government for not taking proper action to end the volatile situation in Manipur. The tensions remain high between two ethnic groups in Kashmir, Metei and Kuki, which has kept Manipur in an unstable position for over a month now. Pawar commented on this matter, saying, “There is a conflict going on between two ethnic groups. They are attacking each other, and houses are being torched. The state is ruled by the BJP but the Union government is not taking effective steps.”

He also asked the Centre to keep a close eye on states that border China and Pakistan. “The Union government should look into the states which share borders with China and Pakistan with utmost seriousness,” warned NCP chief Sharad Pawar. Manipur is among the multiple northeastern states which China claims to be a part of its territory, and it has tried on several occasions in the past to enter and capture parts of the state. While the Manipur violence was caused due to ethnic friction, Home Minister Amit Shah recently visited Manipur to ensure that it does not compromise India’s national security.
