Nawazuddin Siddiqui Remembers Getting Scolded by Anurag Kashyap

Nawazuddin Siddiqui has proved himself to be among the most versatile actors in the Indian film industry time and again. But his role as Faisal Khan in Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur film series remains one of his most iconic roles. The film brought great success for the actor, and his career took off thanks to his nationwide recognition. However, in a conversation with Mashable India, Nawazuddin Siddiqui revealed that he was scolded by Kashyap on the very first day as he tried to imitate Al Pacino to capture the strong aura of his character. This did not go down well with the director, and he ended up disapproving the act.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui described his conversation with the Gangs of Wasseypur director saying, “Anurag scolded me a lot at night. He told me, ‘You’re behaving too much like Al Pacino’. So I threw the entire facade away overnight, and I couldn’t sleep all night. When I went there the morning next day, I went purely as Nawaz,” he said. He further added, “You don’t get powers just by playing it. For example, Anurag used to say, ‘You have 25 people standing behind you, so you don’t have to play power. Just be normal, and you’d look dangerous.” Siddiqui recently starred in Tiku Weds Sheru opposite Avneet Kaur.
