Nature-Dwellers were rescued at the Pali Waterfall in Goa
All 80 people stranded at the Pali waterfall in Goa’s Sattari taluka were rescued on Sunday by the state’s Fire and Emergency Services and the police, according to an official
These individuals got stranded due to a sudden increase in water levels upstream and a swollen river that needed to be crossed to reach the waterfall, all caused by heavy rains over the weekend. The site experienced a heavy rush of visitors since it was a Sunday. Reports said that all 80 were rescued from Pali Waterfall. No casualties have been reported. The rescue operation was conducted along with Goa Fire and Emergency Services,” Superintendent of Police (North) Akshat Kaushal told PTI in the evening. The rescue operation began after the stranded individuals alerted the Valpoi police station for help.
In another development, the state education department declared a school holiday on Monday due to the continuous heavy rains. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘red alert’ for the state until Tuesday. “Given the incessant rains and the alert issued by IMD Goa centre predicting heavy to hefty rainfall, and considering the safety of young children, it has been decided to declare a holiday on Monday for all schools in the state,” stated the circular issued by state education director Shailesh Zingade. The education department advised students to stay indoors and avoid flooded streets, riversides, and other hazardous locations amid the heavy rains.
