Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals in a close finish
The 16th match of TATA IPL witnessed a tough contest between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, who faced each other in Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. Delhi Capitals batted first, and captain David Warner led from the front by scoring a laudable half-century with six fours before being dismissed for 51. While the top and middle order largely failed to make much impact after the quick fall of wickets, Axar Patel stood his ground and smashed 54 runs off only 25 balls with 4 fours and 5 sixes. His brilliant efforts helped Delhi reach a respectable score of 172 runs before all their wickets fell in 19.4 overs thanks to attacking spells by Jason Beherendoff and Piyush Chawla, who took 3 wickets each.
Mumbai Indians responded with a suave opening partnership between skipper Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan. Just like Warner, Sharma led from the front as well by hitting 6 fours and 4 sixes to reach 65 runs. As Mumbai Indians looked like they would comfortably reach the target, Mukesh Kumar brought Delhi back in the game by taking two quick wickets of Tilak Verma and Suryakumar Yadav. Their run rate significantly slowed down with two new batsmen on the crease, and it looked like Mumbai might fall short of the target. The game went till the final ball of the innings, and nerves were high before Tim David and Cameron pulled their team to its first victory in the season after losing two games.
The next match will be played between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
