Multiple Postulations on Mumbai Weather
The recent rainfall in Mumbai and Thane can be attributed to a meteorological phenomenon, as a senior scientist from IMD Mumbai explained. This weather pattern involves a trough and a line of discontinuity, leading to the convergence of various wind types, including dry and moist winds. Consequently, drizzles have been experienced in these regions. Over the weekend, Mumbai and Thane witnessed unexpected drizzles, catching residents off guard. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts more light showers for Mumbai on Monday while Thane braces for thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning and gusts, prompting a yellow alert.
The relief from the scorching summer heat arrived on Saturday night, with areas like Vikhroli, Powai, and sections of Thane city and its surroundings receiving light showers. However, data from IMD’s observatories indicated zero rainfall. Before the showers, Mumbai recorded maximum temperatures between 33 to 34 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Further rain is predicted for both Mumbai and Thane, starting Sunday. A yellow alert has been issued for Thane and Raigad districts, warning residents about possible thunderstorm activity, lightning, and gusty winds.
While Maharashtra experiences heavy rainfall in various regions, IMD has issued an orange alert for districts like Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Nashik, Ahmednagar, and parts of Vidarbha. The senior scientist from IMD Mumbai explained the weather phenomenon, highlighting the interaction of different wind types as the cause of the rainfall. Despite the anticipated rain, temperatures are not expected to drop significantly, with levels likely to hover around 33 to 34 degrees Celsius. The IMD forecasts rain or thundershowers for May 13th evening or night, with temperatures ranging from 27.0 to 33.0 degrees Celsius. May 14th and 15th are expected to be partly cloudy, with temperatures ranging from 27.0 to 34.0 degrees Celsius. May 18th is forecasted to have clear skies, with temperatures ranging from 27.0 to 35.0 degrees Celsius.
